 We are excited

to announce that MentorGNV will be opening applications for mentors for the Fall 2026 semester!

MentorGNV is an organization that provides mentors – in the form of UF students like you – for the students of Alachua County Public Schools. Our mentors volunteer in local elementary, middle, and high schools each week to serve as a source of continuous support, companionship, and empowerment for students in our local community. Mentors support their mentees academically, socially, mentally, and emotionally each week as they navigate school and life. We believe that by simply being there for our mentees, we can have a profound impact on their lives, and ultimately, on our whole community.

Our organization is open to all majors. Mentors volunteer at their assigned school each week for anywhere from thirty minutes to two hours. We work with your schedule and preferences to assign you a mentoring placement that’s right for you. We also create carpools by pairing mentors who have offered to drive others with mentors needing transportation to their school. Our mentoring divisions are as follows: elementary 1-on-1, elementary group, middle school, high school, and science outreach. We invite you to visit the About Us page on our website to get a glimpse into what mentoring in each division looks like.

pipelines that have a direct, real-world impact on global food security and biosecurity.

epidemiology tools like the R2M Plant Health Toolbox.

• Analyze Complex Systems: Conduct network analysis and apply machine learning

models to large-scale agricultural datasets.

The UR2PhD Program makes it easier for folks to engage undergraduate students in research by offering programming to equip students with foundational skills they need to succeed.    For undergraduate students:  If you’re planning on working with emerging researchers in your lab, you may want to consider inviting them to participate in UR2PhD’s Undergraduate Research Training Course (URTC). The URTC is a synchronous, virtual course that helps students learn while doing. The URTC teaches students how to read research papers, how to conduct literature searches, and ultimately enables them to practice writing technically.  To participate in the URTC, students must:  Be undergraduate students at a North American institution  Work in groups of 2-4 on the same research project with the same mentor  Be willing and able to attend all synchronous course sessions at the same time as their team  Applications for the fall URTC course are due on September 9.
